Montgomery Returns to Livingston on Loan

Celtic left back Adam Montgomery has finalized a season-long loan move to Scottish Championship side Livingston. The 24-year-old, who previously joined Livingston in the 2025/26 campaign, returns after a calf injury cut his initial loan short in January 2026. The deal comes as Livingston thanked Celtic for their role in pushing the transfer through, with Montgomery set to wear number 2.4 under head coach Glenn Whelan.

Celtic's Support Shown in January

Livingston manager David Martindale praised Celtic's 'class' in terminating Montgomery's loan last season after a recurring calf injury. The defender, who made eight appearances for the Lions, suffered a setback similar to his previous injury, ruling him out for 16 weeks. Celtic agreed to recall him, freeing up funds for Livingston to pursue other options. Martindale called the decision 'a massive thank you' to Celtic's management.

Loan History and Career Context

Montgomery, an academy product who joined Celtic at age six, has been loaned out seven times in his career, including stints at Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Fleetwood Town, Motherwell, and Queen’s Park. Despite his frequent loan moves, he has made 20 first-team appearances for Celtic in six seasons. This latest loan to Livingston aims to provide regular Championship football as he recovers from injury.
